Cliff Matte

\
This is a cliff matte mde from three different images. The man standing on the rock is seperate from the back ground. By using refined selection tools and quick mask I managed to isolate the man on the rock I wanted. I also used the refine edge to get a better selection. After placing the man standing on the rock where I wanted in the new background I started to apply adjustment layers to it. I managed to get a dark shadow on the man. Finally I inserted a new sky in with a layer mask. This

night shop matte

For this matte painting I had to turn this building into a night shop. First I had to remove all of the people and the tent to get a clean slate. I did this by using the spot healing brush tool. Then to build up texture back up i used the healing brush tool and cloning stamp. My next approach was to replace the sky with a different background. To do this I used the channels layers and decided to use the blue channel to remove the sky background. After that I started to use adjustment layers on the building, grass, and trees to increase the image quality for night time. My last adjustment layer was the photo filter were i added a underwater filter. Also I used a solid color adjustment layer to paint some color on the trees. The last touch I put on the building background was a filter high pass. Now my focus was on the sky background. I altered the background using levels, hue/saturation, and color balance and other adjustments. I also decided to copy the moon and overlayed it and added an outerglow. The final step I did was add a gaussian blur to the moon for a halo effect.

meteor city part 1

Here I have my first part of my matte painting. With the city back ground in place I started with the smoke trails that lead to the buildings. By doing that I used a custom made brush called to get a good smoke texture and used shades of light blue and grey to get the color. There is also a piece of the top building falling apart from a meteor hit. I added some depth to the building piece by painting in some black. Last thing I did was add debris falling from the building to add a realistic effect of impact from the meteor hitting the building.

blending pratice

Here I praticed blending colors by using the paint brush in Photoshop. The objects on the left are images i had to duplicate. I found the retangle shape easier to do because of the direction of the the brush, but to help myself for the circle I used guides and rulers to isolate sections and build from there. To help me pick the colors I wanted I used the eye dropper to pick out most of the colors. Lowering the softness of the brush and also the flow were some techniques i used to better my brush. By taking some time I think I matched the colors well and in the end came out pretty good.

my sand textured brush

this is a texture i had to create by making a custom brush. This was originally a picture of desert landscape. i used a refined selection tool to pick out a little piece i wanted.

Here in this photo I will remove a few of the objects by using photoshop. An easy and good way to remove any buildings or isolate any docks that you do not want is to use is by using the quick mask mode. Quick mask mode is another way to select object without using any magic wand or lasso, but instead you can use the paint brush. This is useful because when lasso and magic wand tools do not work, the quick mask will most likely solve the problem. When using quick mask you can get finer selections by changing the size or hardness/softness of the brush. This allows for better selection for small and close object. Also you can select many objects at once.   But in this photo i will remove a few of the buildings along with some rooftops and also one of the docks.

For my VC:265 class i had to take a picture of myself and have it redone in photoshop. To clean up my photo i used some color methods and lighting/darkness adjustments. When I started I had to brighten up my entire photo so I used the brightness under adjustments to make the image clearer. Overall to my picture i added some blue. I did a little bit up this my using hue, and color balance under adjustments from image. Then to really get the effect of natural blue sunlight reflection I used the photo filter to use and underwater affect. To bring out the red in the pillow to the right of me I had isolate it and so did this by using a magnetic lasso tool. After that i then went in and added some red hue to it and changed along with the midtones-shadows-highlights. I also did the same thing with my black shirt. I had to isolate my shirt and add in a darker tone.

color correction methods

Here I color corrected a couple of mangos and put it behind a cutting board which was also color corrected, and did this by using a few Photoshop methods. First with the mangos that I found on Flicker.com which is a good site for photos. When in PS i used the magnetic lasso tool to go around the three mangos that I wanted. After that I used an inverse selection tool to get rid of the back round and just leave my three mangos i wanted. Then that is when the adjusting of the colors started to begin. For brightness/contrast, levels, curves, and exposure all I did was just a little bit of tweaking in each of these sections. The brightness helped along with the curves to get a my color started some. Also under exposure I liked the gamma correction because it helped me bring out my green in my fruit. When using Vibrance, Hue/saturation, and color balance these were the methods to really polish my mango. Vibrance was useful, and used a lot of it because it really brought my fruit to life. Hue/saturation was good for adding more color of red and and add some light to my fruit. Last but not least color balance was the finishing touch on the mango were i got to bring out even more red and also yellow to really make my fruit look tropical.

To make my fruit look presentable I wanted to find something that had some relation to it so I decided to put in on a cutting board. The first step I did in PS was to get rid my background and only keep my cutting board. To this this I simply used the polygonal lasso tool to go around the cutting board and again did an inverse tool. Next was to fill up my page with the cutting board so i used free transform to scale it and keep the size proportional. Many of the same methods where used besides hue/saturation and color balance, because color was not need for the cutting board. The original cutting board was dull so I decided to brighten.
