My matte painting

Here is my matte painting that I made from several different pictures. This invovled using many different selection tools, custom brushes, and layer styles.

meteor city part 1

 Here I have my first part of my matte painting. With the city back ground in place I started with the smoke trails that lead to the buildings. By doing that I used a custom made brush called to get a good smoke texture and used shades of light blue and grey to get the color. There is also a piece of the top building falling apart from a meteor hit. I added some depth to the building piece by painting in some black. Last thing I did was add debris falling from the building to add a realistic effect of impact from the meteor hitting the building.

Here I praticed blending colors by using the paint brush in Photoshop. The objects on the left are images i had to duplicate. I found the retangle shape easier to do because of the direction of the the brush, but to help myself for the circle I used guides and rulers to isolate sections and build from there. To help me pick the colors I wanted I used the eye dropper to pick out most of the colors. Lowering the softness of the brush and also the flow were some techniques i used to better my brush. By taking some time I think I matched the colors well and in the end came out pretty good.

this is a texture i had to create by making a custom brush. This was originally a picture of desert landscape. i used a refined selection tool to pick out a little piece i wanted.

Here in this photo I will remove a few of the objects by using photoshop. An easy and good way to remove any buildings or isolate any docks that you do not want is to use is by using the quick mask mode. Quick mask mode is another way to select object without using any magic wand or lasso, but instead you can use the paint brush. This is useful because when lasso and magic wand tools do not work, the quick mask will most likely solve the problem. When using quick mask you can get finer selections by changing the size or hardness/softness of the brush. This allows for better selection for small and close object. Also you can select many objects at once.   But in this photo i will remove a few of the buildings along with some rooftops and also one of the docks.

For my VC:265 class i had to take a picture of myself and have it redone in photoshop. To clean up my photo i used some color methods and lighting/darkness adjustments. When I started I had to brighten up my entire photo so I used the brightness under adjustments to make the image clearer. Overall to my picture i added some blue. I did a little bit up this my using hue, and color balance under adjustments from image. Then to really get the effect of natural blue sunlight reflection I used the photo filter to use and underwater affect. To bring out the red in the pillow to the right of me I had isolate it and so did this by using a magnetic lasso tool. After that i then went in and added some red hue to it and changed along with the midtones-shadows-highlights. I also did the same thing with my black shirt. I had to isolate my shirt and add in a darker tone.
